Our Parish Family

st. matthias interiorThe parish family at St. Matthias’ hopes you find us a friendly and inviting place for you. We encourage you to worship with us, to join us in fellowship, and to take advantage of the wide variety of activities and ongoing ministries we offer for all ages.

Come, be yourself, and share the gifts and talents God has given you. This Church is THE CHURCH for those that do not seem to fit anywhere else. There is a place for you here.

Our early service features no music making it a short, personal service. It is regularly attended by a loyal corps of worshippers who prefer a quiet service with a lay reader and priest.

The 10:30am service is more formal, featuring the full choir, piano, organ, acolytes, lay readers and children’s chapel. On frequent occasions, this later service will by accompanied by guitars or alternative brass and woodwind instruments. Average attendance at the 10:30am service is 75-100 with the normal increases during Christmas and Easter.

PentecostAt times throughout the year, we branch out into the surrounding community to hold our 10:30am service in the parks and facilities available to us.

We celebrate Pentecost in the Park, usually at Henderson Falls Park, here in Toccoa, where our day begins with worship and continues with a potluck lunch, games, fellowship and relaxation.

We also have a tradition of moving our second service to Camp Mikell where we worship in the outdoor chapel. After the service, we have lunch in the Mikell Dining Hall and then spend the rest of the afternoon hiking, watching the children play games or just rocking on the porch.

We are proud of a large community of members who regularly participate in leading worship: our altar guild, our cadre of lay readers, our large group of acolytes of various ages, acolyte leaders, ushers and greeters – all of whom serve on a rotating schedule.
